Member of the French underground electronic live scene Dragongaz has been active in free parties, festivals and clubs in France since more than a decade with his former band Interlope. Around 1996, 69db was coming into reality: The periods of Spiral Liveset, Liveset Dub, Sp23, Stormcore were nearing their end. Having moved to Paris with limited equipment it took a moment to get a liveset up and running but when it came together out came a few mixes that on cassette alone had a lasting effect on ravers. First came “Le Fuck techno import mix” and “Fuck Le Pen” which were minimal Hard Techno followed by “Skunk mix”. The vibes were more tribal psychedelic. Oscillating between duple and triple time a more tribal trance effect was achieved. Adding bass reconnection to house was respected but not overstated. Music for when the sun rises over a Teknival morning session. 69db’s music literally grew up on the sound systems of the 1990’s. Over this period along with Spiral Tribe and its sub label Network 23 69db has been developing a scheme that fuses live improvisation with electronic music and programming. The result is 50/50 split between these two poles and gained much respect from musicians inside and outside the world of electronic music as improvisation within the electronic media breaks the barrier between performers and listeners. In 1995 69db noticed that by slowing down the beats he was using for his liveset and applying dub attitude a whole new world of music opened up to him. The first real project found its place on Paris based label Expressillon where in 1999 the album ‘69db in dub technic’ - a voyage into improvised jams fusing dub, techno and breakbeat - was completed, followed by ‘Dragoon dub’ in 2002. However, out in the free parties of Europe this music was relegated to afternoon jams as the partygoers chilled in the sun.
